Selectmen Meeting Minutes 08/06/07
The Board of Selectmen held a regular meeting on Monday, August 6, 2007 in the meeting room at the C. H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT.   First Selectman Rosenthal called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

PRESENT:        First Selectman Herbert Rosenthal,   Selectman Joseph Bonowski, Selectman William Brimmer

ALSO PRESENT:  Town Engineer Ron Bolmer, four members of public

VOTER PARTICIPATION:   None noted at this time.   

COMMUNICATIONS:  None noted

UNFINISHED BUSINESS – First Selectman Rosenthal advised that the members of the Board of Selectmen have received the comments from the Board of Police Commissioners on the Queen Street Area Traffic Improvement Plan.  Once the members have had a chance to review this, as well as the comments from the Borough Board of Burgesses, it will be discussed at a future meeting of the Selectmen.

NEW BUSINESS

Driveway Bond Releases/Extensions/Forfeitures
Selectman Brimmer moved to release four driveway bonds, approve a six month extension for three driveway bonds and forfeit five driveway bonds which have expired, as outlined on Attachment A.   Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

Appointments/Reappointments
Selectman Bojnowski moved to approve that the First Selectman make seven appointments and three reappointments as outlined on Attachment B.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

Tax Refunds
Selectman Brimmer moved to approve August 2007 Refund No. 1 in the amount of $7,715.18.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

ADD TO AGENDA:  Selectman Brimmer moved to add an item to the agenda regarding a State grant to be received.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
        Ms. Mae Schmidle was present and advised that she has requested a $25,000 grant from the Connecticut commission on Culture and Tourism to finish the inventory of historical homes in the Sandy Hook area.  This Grant requires authorization for the First Selectman to sign before we can receive the funds.
        Selectman Bojnowski moved the following – RESOLVED:  That Herbert C. Rosenthal, First Selectman is authorized to enter into and execute a grant contract with the State of Connecticut, acting by and through the Connecticut commission on Culture and Tourism, in the amount of $25,000 on behalf of the Town of Newtown for the purpose of a survey and inventory of historic buildings in the Sandy Hook area of Newtown, Connecticut.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
